Crafting a dish

Printer-friendly version

I just finished reading a new friend's blog (parent in my son's class)  and I was very inspired (Hi Nicole!).
I'm always happy to find fellow crafters and mamas (Nicole, are you friends with Erika -the one with the massive curly hair and gorgeous boys?) Anywho, that made me rethink viewing myself as a crafter.
I'm a better crafter than I am a cook. I mean, I love to eat, but cooking stresses me out. Crafting does not. Crafting is way more fun for me. Crafting however doesn't nourish my family and keep them alive.
So here my my new novel idea. View cooking like another form of crafting. Be creative! Have fun! Think about color, texture and being happy. Food can be sculptural, zany and delicious!
It's worth a shot anyway, right? I mean, if I can think about cooking in terms of creating a form of ephemeral art, then why not? Maybe I won't be complaining so much about feeding the crew. Maybe I can feel joyful and make some visionary dishes. Maybe I can think about me as the Kitchen Artist and whip up some masterpieces.
My canvas is a dish and I will be a (canola) oil painter (HA!)
Wish me luck (as always). I hope I am unto something BIG and magical.
