Club Sandwich

(American chicken & bacon sandwich)

Yield: 1 sandwich


INGREDIENTS PREP AMOUNT
Bread toasted 3 slices
Mayonnaise 3 Tbsp
Chicken breast cooked, sliced thin 1/2 lb
Tomato 3-4 slices
Bacon cooked 3-4 pieces
Lettuce 1 leaf

METHOD

  1. Spread mayonnaise on one side of each of the slices of bread.
  2. Spread the sliced chicken over one of the slices of bread. Top with another slice of bread.
  3. Lay the tomatoes over the second slice of bread. Top with the bacon slices, then the lettuce. Place the last slice of bread over all.
  4. Put a long toothpick about 1" in on each of the four sides. Carefully slice the sandwich on the diagonal into 4 triangles and serve with a side of potato chips.

VARIATIONS

  • Use sliced turkey breast instead of chicken.
  • Add a sliced avocado.

NOTES

  • This sandwich is popular around the world in restaurants, hotels and private clubs, where it probably acquired its name. It is speculated that it was originally made at the Saratoga Club House in Saratoga Springs, NY, the same place that invented potato chips. The original version had only two pieces of bread.
