Salsa Mexicana

(Mexican fresh tomato salsa)

Yield: 2-3 cups


INGREDIENTS PREP AMOUNT
Tomatoes seeded, small dice 2-3 each
Jalapeños seeded, minced 1-3 each
Onion, red small dice 1 each
Garlic minced 1-2 cloves
Cilantro (opt.) chopped 1/2 bunch
Lime juice only 2 each
Salt & pepper to taste

METHOD

Basic Steps:  Mix
  1. Mix all together well in a large bowl.
  2. Let set at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to mingle.

VARIATIONS

  • Adjust the amount of heat you want with the jalapeños.
  • You can use lemon juice or vinegar if you like, but the taste will not be as authentic. Lemons are not widely used in Mexico.
  • In the Yucatán, chopped cabbage and grated radishes are often added to salsas.

NOTES

  • This is the basic salsa that is used as an all-purpose condiment in Mexico.
