Tubu Choerim

(Korean spiced tofu)

Yield: 4-6 servings


INGREDIENTS PREP AMOUNT
Tofu, firm cut in 1/2" slices 1 lb
Oil 3 Tbsp
 
Soy sacue 1/4 cup
Water 1/4 cup
Scallions cut in 1" pieces 4 each
Garlic minced 1-2 cloves
Korean red chile flakes 1 tsp to 1 Tbsp

METHOD

  1. Dry tofu with a paper towel. Heat oil in skillet over medium-high flame. Brown tofu on both sides in hot oil. Remove.
  2. Mix remaining ingredients together. Place 1/4 of sauce mix in a small saucepan. Place a layer over tofu over this. Repeat until all tofu and sauce has been used up. Bring to a boil, cover tightly, and simmer over low heat for 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside another 10 minutes to allow flavor to be absorbed.

VARIATIONS

  • Add more or less chile flakes according to your taste. Korean red pepper is best. Otherwise regular chile flakes will do.
